Burns are also the fifth most common cause of non-fatal childhood injury worldwide and many burns injuries are caused by a lack of adult supervision or maltreatment. They can take seconds to occur but can change a person’s life forever. Often, in addition to the burn injuries, burn patients may experience anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Therefore, ahead of the winter months and burn awareness week in the month of May, let’s remind ourselves about the importance of fire safety and the dangers of burns.
