Let’s Talk About Your Mental Health
October is known as Mental Health awareness month and one thing 2020 and 2021 has taught us is that taking care of our mental wellbeing is as important as our physical health.
According to the South Africa Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), about one in three South African’s have mental health issues at some point in their lifetime but, only one in 10 people with a mental illness in South Africa has access to mental healthcare, a lot still has to be done in our communities to normalise and humanise mental health.
Master Transformation Coach Liezl Thom, in an article with TimesLive, emphasised the importance of mental health awareness in society; she said, “Mental health awareness in SA is critical for a healthy society, as our mental wellbeing is a crucial part of our overall health. Unfortunately, we don’t talk about mental health and mental health issues nearly enough, mainly because of the stigma that has long surrounded mental illnesses.”
Sadly, people with mental health continue to be discriminated against and stigmatised in our communities however, we at Kaelo pride ourselves in changing that narrative by providing access to quality healthcare for all Africans with our Lifestyle programme. Whether you have a Personal / Financial /Legal matter you want assistance with, you can speak to one of our counsellors today.
Let’s work together and make mental health matter this month.
