WHAT IS TRAUMA?

It is the renowned author, Gabor Maté that said:

“ Trauma is not what happens to you, it’s what happens inside of you as a result of what happened to you”.

Trauma is our emotional and psychological response to a deeply distressing or disturbing experience. It can result from events like accidents, loss, abuse, crime, natural disasters or even long-term stress.

It is therefore important to remember that trauma isn’t just about what happened to us, it’s about how it makes us feel. Two people can go through the same event and one might be deeply affected while the other might recover quickly, both responses are completely valid.
