What are you doing with
Your One Precious Life?
A question posed by many and heading into a new year, a great question to challenge us on what we want to achieve and who we want to become in 2024!
The New Year comes with the perfect opportunity to create new routines and habits that can help set you up for success in 2024. Setting yourself up for success in 2024 requires intent. Being intentional about where you are going and what you want to achieve will set 2024 apart from previous years.
Intentional goal setting means setting goals that are truly meaningful to you, goals that play to your unique strengths, passion, purpose and individuality. Setting goals with intention also helps you achieve more by doing less, and overcome obstacles along the way.
Being intentional about your goal setting also ensures that you focus on setting realistic goals by creating a solid achievable plan.
The following experts from Forbes Magazine share a few tips on how you can set yourself up for success in the new year.
Check your values-goals alignment
The new year is a great time to check in on your core values, both personally and for your organization, and determine how (or if) your goals align with those values. When your goals align with your core values, it becomes easier to stay on track to success because you are working more naturally in concert with your beliefs and priorities.

Focus on personal and professional OKRs
After a busy holiday season, the new year can surprise us if we haven’t taken the time to focus on what our objectives and key results are, both personally and professionally. Get a head start on January by taking time out to reflect, plan and strategize. Choose a place and time that allows you to completely unplug and focus on your priorities so you can step into the new year with clarity and confidence.

Reflect on what’s working well and what isn’t
January is a good time to start anew, but it is also a good time to reflect and adjust. By taking time to reflect, you allow yourself to see what is working, what is not and what might work better.

Break a big goal into micro-steps
Identify your goals and establish tiny habits in support of those goals. As most of us know, New Year’s resolutions rarely work. Tiny habits break down big tasks into accomplishable tidbits that fit easily into your busy life. Throw out the long “to-do” lists and the 20-step programs. Focus on breaking down your goal into micro-steps and ask yourself, “What tiny habits will support my goal?”

Create a behaviour-focused picture of success
Give yourself the time to create a picture of success that describes how you would like to be showing up a year from now, from how you’re showing up today. Instead of focusing on results such as a higher-level role, focus on the behaviours you would be demonstrating in that new role, including how you would deal with challenges, communication or any other aspect of the vision you have for yourself.

Practice Self-Mastery
Learn to take control of your emotions, enhance your self-awareness and manage your behavior. How can you ever hope to be in charge of anything if you do not master yourself? It is a journey—a lifelong process—but the rewards become evident at each level of analysis of one’s life.

Prioritise self-care and development
Goal setting is important, but prioritizing your self-care and development comes first, as this lays the foundation for achieving your goals. Spend time reflecting and writing down the tools and resources you need to support you. Also, identify what you need to release in your life that does not serve you and is not aligned with your values and the strategies that empower your growth.
